I want to stress this again: In many, many parts of the country right now, if you want to go to see a movie in the theater and see a current movie about a woman — any story about any woman that isn’t a documentary or a cartoon — you can’t. You cannot. There are not any. You cannot take yourself to one, take your friend to one, take your daughter to one.

There are not any.

By far your best shot, numbers-wise, at finding one that’s at least even-handedly featuring a man and a woman is Before Midnight (on 891 screens) so I hope you like it. Because it’s pretty much that or a solid, impenetrable wall of movies about dudes.

Dudes in capes, dudes in cars, dudes in space, dudes drinking, dudes smoking, dudes doing magic tricks, dudes being funny, dudes being dramatic, dudes flying through the air, dudes blowing up, dudes getting killed, dudes saving and kissing women and children, and dudes glowering at each other.

Somebody asked me this morning what “the women” are going to do about this. I don’t know. I honestly am at the point where I have no idea what to do about it. Stop going to the movies? Boycott everything?

They put up Bridesmaids, we went. They put up Pitch Perfect, we went. They put up The Devil Wears Prada, which was in two-thousand-meryl-streeping-oh-six, and we went (and by “we,” I do not just mean women; I mean we, the humans), and all of it has led right here, right to this place. Right to the land of zippedy-doo-dah. You can apparently make an endless collection of high-priced action flops and everybody says “win some, lose some” and nobody decides that They Are Poison, but it feels like every “surprise success” about women is an anomaly and every failure is an abject lesson about how we really ought to just leave it all to The Rock.

Wow I really honestly feel kind of horrible about how badly that guy I was having a discussion with took it  :( I feel it was all an awful misunderstanding and if I was in any way unclear, just my intellectual pride alone is driving me NUTS telling me to make sure he understood what I was saying.

I thought you did great! I wouldn’t waste another moment on him. *hugs*

Thanks! I really appreciate the supportive hugs :D I’m feeling pretty ok about it now :P

Now I want everyone to replace the world men with Blacks. Sounds racist right? Now replace men with Gays? Sounds hatefull right?

Now replace men with women? Extremely sexist right?

Why are statements like this humorous while others are offensive?

No penis no opinon would be the most sexist thing. That one is outlandish.

Since this post is still going around…  That last image: What if that was a woman on the ground and a man kicking her. Food for thought.

Nothing to do with fitness but this is SUCH an issue with me. If men say they hate women or spew such hateful things about women, they are viewed as abusive ..yet why do people find it funny and acceptable when the shoe is on the other foot.. and say things like “you go girl” and “girl power”  when women do/say this!? Are you kidding me!?  I guess these types of women have yet to figure out how to find the right kind of guy…not all men are jerks. Don’t judge every male in the universe based on a bad experience. We ladies would hate it, if men judged us that way. UGH

This is my biggest issue with Tumblr Feminists because they’re so hypocritical it’s ridiculous. Man-hating is sexism whether they want to realize it or not.

^THAT and everything else said here.  Literally on my knees thanking God that there are women that realize this.  And like I said the other day…all men suck, eh?  Huh…no wonder all us guys look like Hitler….you’re right.  We’re all evil German dictators.  We’re all the same.

Psst.

I’ll let you in on a little secret:

Women who say they hate men are women stating their personal opinion of men probably stemming from a lifetime of negative interactions with said men.

Sexism is a societal construct that results in the  oppression of women (or hypothetically men) stemming from their societally perceived gender.

One is the personal opinion of a lot of individual people.

The other is the opinion of a society which is played out by individual people.

Also, for the record, it isn’t sexism when you ACTUALLY HAVE A REASON TO DISLIKE MEN. And a lot of women (and sometimes men) have actual, real life reasons to dislike and/or mistrust men. Like being constantly afraid for their physical safety, having been raped or assaulted in the past, seeing men constantly speaking for women (or any number of marginalized populations including non-straight cisgender white men) and doing it wrong, and, you know, MRAs.

No genuinely feminist person is ever going to take you seriously if you ignore institutional sexism. They just aren’t.

You can hate us all you like but we’re still right.

Sorry.

Actually you’re wrong because you missed the bloody keyword:  ALL MEN.  It is a generalization of ALL OF US.

Yes! It is!

I’m going to use a clumsy metaphor to try and illustrate my point;

So say you nearly drown in a pool one day. You’re swimming at night or you’re a little kid and nobody’s watching or you fall in and you can’t swim. Whatever the reason, you end up almost drowning, but you save yourself, or someone hears the splashing and comes to save you, and you live on.

Wouldn’t it make sense then that you would avoid water for a while? Or, depending on how traumatic that experience was, the rest of your life? Wouldn’t you avoid ALL WATER? Even though you almost drowned in a pool, and a pool and the ocean, or the pool and a lake, are totally different things? Or a pool and a tub? Because fears are often irrational?

And isn’t it also true that fear and hatred are closely linked by virtually every psychological study done of phobias? You don’t say “I’m afraid of spiders”, you say “I hate spiders.”

Your experience as a man will never, NEVER, *NEVER* contain as much constant societally encouraged fear as the lives of the women who live in this country, and in countries across the globe. If a woman says she hates men there is a really good chance that she has a REALLY GOOD REASON to do so, and if that’s the case? It isn’t feminism causing the problem, it’s the patriarchy that has CAUSED THE HATRED IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Women hating men because they are men SUCKS, but the problem isn’t that they hate men, an action that is only going to have a minimal effect on your personal life, it is the SYSTEMIC OPPRESSION AND DISCRIMINATION that causes them to hate in the first place.

This is the last thing I will say:

If all men are the same, I wouldn’t have a wife.

Think about that.

Because horrible people never get married?

So where does domestic abuse come from then?

NOTE THAT I AM IN NO WAY CALLING YOU A DOMESTIC ABUSER.

But your assertion of being married as proof that all men everywhere are not horrible people carries no water because horrible men have wives too. A lot of them are married, and that’s why a woman is more likely to be killed by her partner than by any other person in her life.

“NOTE THAT I AM IN NO WAY CALLING YOU A DOMESTIC ABUSER.”

But you did call me horrible and claim that I’m going to kill my wife.

This conversation is over.

Nnnnnno? I didn’t?

Who’s the person extrapolating now? I was saying that there are horrible men who are married, not that all men who are married are horrible. I also didn’t say you were going to kill your wife, I said a woman is MORE LIKELY to be killed by her partner than, say, random dude on the street with a knife.

You sound a little hysterical. Would you like a glass of water or something? Like, I’m really concerned that I’ve sent you into some sort of  anguished tailspin. I’m sorry?

“I said a woman is MORE LIKELY to be killed by her partner than, say, random dude on the street with a knife.”

By saying this, you are implying that I will kill my wife.

And I’m gonna try my hardest to ignore your little jab at me in that last paragraph.

No! I am not.

Depending on the statistics, which I will admit can vary wildly depending on people’s definitions of both “woman” and “partner”, something like 4,000 woman die every year by violent death at the hands of their partner.

What the statistics say is not that a woman is likely to be killed by her partner; there are quite obviously more than 4,000 married women in the US, much less worldwide. What they are saying is that the people who kill women violently TEND TO BE THEIR PARTNERS. As opposed to stranger deaths, or friends, or relatives. The people who are killing tend to be married (or otherwise in a relationship) to the women they are killing. That’s what I’m saying.

I find it VANISHINGLY UNLIKELY that you are one of the approximately 4,000 people who kill their partners every year, because STATISTICS TELL ME SO. You have a (STATISTICAL) 0.1% (AS IN FAR LESS THAN 1 PERCENT) chance of being one of those people. I would be an idiot to assume that you are one of those people. I was not saying that.

What I was saying was that marriage is no guarantor of safety because there are women who are married, or otherwise in relationships, who end up having violence perpetrated upon them by men. THAT’S WHAT I WAS SAYING.

And I apologize for the sarcasm, I was getting frustrated because I hate when I’m unclear in my statements.

Sorry.

I definitely agree with you, except in regards to the last gif, which I definitely dislike—if a woman comes on to a man, pushes hard (it happens, I’ve seen it happen numerous times—this is not to say it doesn’t happen the other, because it definitely does, and also I go to a college where girls tend to initiate hookups more than guys) to sleep with him, and he says no no no, and she doesn’t take no for an answer, and he were to slap her/push her away/try to physically dissuade her, even if she had control physically (which also happens)? He’d get in big trouble. I don’t know what the context of that last gif is, but he’s already down on the ground, so if it was a strong come-on, she’s already shoved him off her. Again, if this were the other way round, a guy was up against a wall and he shoved a girl who wanted to sleep with him off, and she fell down, and he kicked her in the tits or something, that’d be abject violence. When it gets to this point, it’s the same. It’s one thing to actively stop someone trying to assault you by kicking them in the balls, it’s another thing to kick a guy who’s already on the ground in the balls, and when it’s used as comedy it sickens me.

That is to say, institutionalized feminism or not, for me the fact that physical violence against men, especially when perpetrated by women, can be used for comedic effect when violence against women has charities is disgusting.

You know, that gif wasn’t even loading for me? So having opened in in a different tab I totally agree with you, that has less to do with women hating men and more to do with just, you know, violence.

My discussion was more about the comments on the post than the original images in any case.

YOUR COMMENTARY IS SO SMART DUDE I LOVE IT :D

Ellie Kemper Asks: Can Men Be Funny?

“Reading a chapter from Warren Buffett’s Tap Dancing to Work the other day, I was surprised to find myself chuckling out loud. Now this guy is kind of funny, I thought to myself as I turned the page and grabbed another Danish. This guy is kind of making me laugh. And those thoughts that I had quietly, in my head, to myself, made me realize just how rarely I do have those thoughts in my head. And that thought led me to another thought, which was: why is that? Why, on the whole, are men just not that funny?”

Read On: Can Men Be Funny? A scientific-y investigation

“Guys, do you want to know a secret? You don’t have to be funny in order to attract us. Believe us, between your scalps and your calves, you’ve already got us. Your narrow, decrescendoing hips, and your soft, very hairy thighs leave us breathless. The truth is, there is no evolutionary cause for you to have to be funny. And precisely because your ancestors, and your ancestors’ grandparents, and your ancestors’ grandparents’ grandparents, and so on and so on, had no procreative need to cultivate a sense of humor and performance, you literally do not have it in your DNA.”

no one touch the comment section it’s so perfect

The truly good satire is coming out of misandry these days. As far as I’m concerned that’s enough of a reason for it to exist.

"Some men who want to compliment random women on the street are genuinely good guys who just don’t understand why their comments might be unwelcome. Some men who want to compliment random women on the street are creepy predators. Most are somewhere in between, and guess what? I don’t know you, I don’t know your life, and I have no idea if you’re going to leave it at “Hey, you look good in that dress!” or follow it up with “But you’d look better without it! Har har! C’mon, where’re you going? I know you heard me! Fucking cunt, nobody wants your fat ass anyway, bitch.”

When you compliment a random woman who doesn’t know you, no matter how nice you are about it, there’s a good chance she’s going to freak out internally because for all she knows, you could be that latter type. And I get that it’s really unfair that women would just assume that about you. I get that it sucks that sometimes, expressing totally reasonable opinions like “hey you’re hot” will make women terrified of you or furious at you. That’s not fair.

But if you’re going to lay the blame for that somewhere, for fuck’s sake, don’t blame the woman. Blame all the guys who have called her a bitch and a cunt for ignoring their advances. Blame all the guys who may have harassed, abused, or assaulted her in the past. Blame all the people who may never do such a thing themselves, but who were quick to blame her and tell her to just get over it. Blame the fact that if she stops and talks to you and then something bad happens, people will blame her for stopping and talking to you."

really though

if breasts, butts and legs are so distracting to men, to the point they cant function

why arent they that distracting to lesbians

and at that point

why isnt the penis bulge and legs not distracting enough to gay men to warrant men being put under the same dress codes

at monash university in melbourne the women’s department had a bake sale and cupcakes were one dollar for men and eighty cents for women and seventy cents for trans* people to represent the wage gap and heaps of guys kicked off about it being sexist and that’s how i finally understood how hypocritical and ignorant men’s rights activism is

to be fair that is pretty darn sexist… why cant stuff just be EQUAL for everyone?
